Reviewing the UNT Metadata System
Today, I spent some time reviewing the UNT Metadata system. Hannah Tarver did an amazing job during the training session, but I am more of a hands-on learner. I took this time to review the online tutorial and guide and read about the information for all of the access points and how they were defined. I wanted to ensure I understood the fields and how best to use the system for my referencing goal. I still feel like I have much to learn and am unfamiliar with formal metadata job duties. However, I liked reviewing all of this information and how Hannah used it to compile the information for the TFC scrapbook collection.

Creating the “DACS Expanded” Finding Aid.
Before I dove into referencing the NM scrapbook, I wanted first to complete the template for the expanded finding aid, as Ailie requested during our meeting. I went into more depth and description for the template I am sending. The first portion is the actual template that a student could use. The second part of the report is the instructions and guidance, along with some snagged images of where to find the information in the MuseumPlus system to find the information. Ailie and I had mentioned in a few conversations how much we appreciate SOP’s provided in our job tasks. The third part of the report is a finished example. Finally, in the last part of the report, I decided to list all of the DACS elements and notation numbers in case anyone was interested in researching or would like to investigate additional elements or definitions of some of the standards I used.
I thought it might be helpful for those less familiar with DACS standards, which are mostly library special collections based.
Below are images of the completed finding aid packet.
